Textron has released the first of three different announcements about its 2019 lineup, and this one is all about ATVs.
For 2019, the Alterra ATV is getting two new models highlighted by new engines, the Alterra 570 and 700.
The 570 is offered in three flavors, the 570, 570 EPS and 570 XT, all of which pack a 545cc single-cylinder EFI engine that provides improved power over the old 443cc engine found in the Alterra 500. The 570 models offer 10-inches of suspension travel in the front and rear along with 11 inches of ground clearance.
The 570 and 570 EPS models get Textron’s Rapid Traction System, allowing riders to change from two- to four-wheel drive on the fly. The 570 XT gets an electronic locking four-wheel drive system, allowing riders to choose from 2WD, 4WD and 4WD lock.
The 570 model is available in Dynamic Gray, while the EPS model is available in Dynamic Charcoal and TrueTimber Camo. The top-end 570 XT model can be had in Fire Red and comes with aluminum wheels.
“We are committed to growing our Textron Off Road lineup of powerful, precision-engineered ATVs,” said John Collins, Vice President, Consumer for Textron Specialized Vehicles. “These new vehicles, led by our new Alterra 570 ATV, include several features that provide operators with more power, a more comfortable ride, and the performance to take on tough trails and get a hard day’s work done well.”
The larger Alterra 700 has also been updated with a brand new engine that is 1.7-inches narrower and 12.4 pounds lighter. Textron says that the rotational mass has been reduced by 30 percent, providing better throttle response and a faster revving engine. A new camshaft grind has been added as well to improve low- to mid-range torque along with emissions with idling. A new CVT cover has been implemented, helping with keeping the transmission cool.
Besides just the cover, the Alterra 700 has a new direct-driven clutch with improved calibration.
The new engine is available in the Alterra 700, 700 XT and 700 EPS.
