We just picked up a fresh 2018 Honda Pioneer 1000-5 LE to test on our trails, and we get to keep this one for a full month.
So we’re asking you: what would you like to see us do with the Pioneer? How exactly would you like to see this unit tested? Let us know in the comments below, and we’ll be sure to take your ideas into account when filming the full review.
For now, let’s go over the basic features of this machine. It uses a 999cc engine that makes 72 horsepower, mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. This allows the Pioneer to make use of paddle shifters, giving the driver the option to shift gears manually, or just leave it in automatic.
Width measures in at 62.9-inches while the wheelbase is a total of just over 80 inches. Curb weight with all fluids is 1773 pounds and ground clearance is a full 12 inches.
What’s most interesting about the Pioneer is the rear seats. Honda has designed a system which allows you to have a full dump bed when you need it, which can then be packed up and turned into two extra seats thanks to the fold-away design. When the seats are in use there is little to no cargo area, but that’s a trade off that few other manufacturers offer. Rather than being stuck with one or the other, Honda gives you the option of having seats or storage.
So what do you think of the Pioneer? Be sure to share your thoughts on this machine and what you would like to see from a full video review on it.
