The Best Machines We Rode in 2018

TFLOffroad was born in the summer of 2018, and we have been running at full tilt ever since to bring you real-world tests of the latest machines on the market.

From Can-Ams in British Columbia, to Polaris’ in the Louisiana mud, we spent some incredible time this year putting new machines to the test? But what were our favorites? Read on to find out the best machines we rode in 2018.

The first machine that stands out to me is the 2019 Yamaha Waverunner FX Cruiser SVHO. This personal watercraft (PWC) is an absolute rocket ship, but what is really striking is the amount of luxury features that make this incredibly quick machine so comfortable. The touchscreen an industry first while the cruise control and new footwell drains make this machine simple to live with.

Now, moving on to things with four wheels, there is no doubt that the Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo S DS stands out as one of the most insane and fun side-by-sides we tested this year. The Maverick, besides being incredibly powerful, packs over 20-inches of suspension travel, and one of our favorite seating positions in the industry, tucking the driver in low and flat like a formula one driver. The Polaris RZR 4 Turbo S comes in as a close second to the Maverick for sheer insanity and fun factor.

Testing the Mahindra Roxor also stands out as a highlight of 2018. The Roxor is one of the most interesting machines to hit the North American off-road space in quite some time. We tested the Roxor next to two established utility side-by-sides, and even though they aren’t direct competition, it was interesting to see how the Mahindra is different from those machines that are available today.

Our resident Russian, Andre Smirnov, also chimed in with his favorite of 2018. “My favorite four wheeler of the year was the 1993 Kawasaki Mule. It’s the machine my wife’s family uses on the farm in New Mexico. It’s small, reliable, simple, and charming. It always gets the job done. It even used to plow snow on sidewalks the one day it snows in Farmington, NM.

On a serious note, the new Kawasaki Mule is my favorite. It’s not the most powerful, or most off-road worthy, but it has a bigger bed, lots of storage, and it’s very useful on the farm. “

Thanks to everyone for reading and watching in 2018! 2019 is going to be an action-packed year here at TFLoffroad, so don’t go anywhere.
