Adding off-road modifications to any pickup truck can slow it down, but how much difference does it really make?
That’s a question we sought to answer, along with a secondary challenge: 5.7-liter HEMI V8 vs 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with eTorque. We took TFLTruck’s Ram Rebel Rouser to the race track along with a modified Ram 1500 Bighorn to find out the answer to all these questions.
Both trucks were fit with the Ram Airflow high-performance air intake, though the power boost gained by that system is not listed. A set of off-road lights, a bar in the bed, a bed storage system and more were on the Bighorn, while the Rebel Rouser is fit with a bed bar system as well along with 35-inch Toyo Open Country ATs. The rubber on the Bighorn is also 35-inches in diameter, though that truck had Toyo Terra Grapplers underneath it.
When the drag race went, the Bighorn was left in the dust every time, with the eTorque on the Ram Rebel appearing to make the difference. We ran the race a few times though, so you’ll have to watch the video above to see exactly how close each race was.
