Rumors are once again circulating that the Hummer brand will be making a comeback soon, but it will ditch its gas-guzzling past in favor of an all-electric future.
Reports from both Reuters and Bloomberg have emerged, stoking the flames that Hummer is poised for a comeback, spearheading General Motor’s push into electric trucks and SUVs.
So far, the only detail that has been confirmed is a $3 billion investment in the Detroit-Hamtramck plant to build new electric trucks and vans, and at this point the speculation suggests that this will be where the new Hummer models come from.
The first electric model from this new venture should be on the road by 2021 and it’s expected that the pickup truck will makes its debut first.
Going with the Hummer nameplate allows GM to jump into the market with a brand name that is instantly recognizable and respected in the off-road world.
