The Lexus GX has had somewhat of a resurgence lately, but not among the wealthy suburbanites who purchased these SUVs new.
Many in the off-road community have found that last-generation Lexus GX models are affordable and offer the sturdy bones of the Toyota Prado, a smaller Land Cruiser variant sold in world markets.
Now, for 2020, Lexus has updated the GX460 once again, making it even more capable off-road and better when you’re on the highway. New looks headlined by the massive spindle grille have arrived for the GX460, while the rear swing gate also has some new chrome style.
Full-time four-wheel drive is standard on the GX, though it has a bag of active features for off-roading as well. Crawl control, adjustable height rear suspension, Kinetic Dynamic Suspenion System (KDSS) and active dampers are all ready to step in and help bring this GX through rough conditions.
Under the hood is a 4.6-liter V8 making 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque, sent through a six-speed automatic transmission.
Neither the front or rear differential can be locked, though there is a button to lock the Torsen limited slip center differential.
