The Dakar Rally has wrapped up its first ever running in Saudi Arabia and the race produced the typical triumphs and heartbreaks.
For the third time, Spanish rally racer Carlos Sainz was the quickest in the rally in his X-Raid Mini, while the move to a new location also seemed to benefit the Americans, two of which stood on the podium at the end of the race.
Ricky Brabec on his Honda dirt bike and Casey Currie in his Can-Am Maverick X3 represent the first two Americans to ever win at Dakar.
Sadly the race wasn’t without tragedy this year, as Portugese motorcycle rider Paulo Goncalves died due to a crash. All of the bikes and quads did not race stage 8 so that they could mourn the fallen rider.
Like usual, the Dakar Rally has released some excellent high quality video showing competitors flying through the dunes and rock strewn countryside of the middle east. All of them are embedded below for your viewing pleasure.
