This might look like a standard 2021 Ford Bronco prototype, but we think it’s hiding something special. This might just be an early Bronco Raptor prototype. If this in fact reaches production, it would likely be the one capable of some serious high-speed off-road running.
Ford Bronco Raptor
What do we know about the Raptor version of the Bronco? We know that Ford has not made any official announcements about this. However, we have two strong sources for the rumor. First, is a recent LinkedIn message by a Ford engineer that listed the Ford Bronco Raptor as one their projects. Second, a reliable anonymous source that told us that Ford is working to put a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 Hybrid into the Bronco. Exact specs on this gas/electric powertrain is not yet known, but 450 horsepower is a likely total number.
A 450-hp Bronco Raptor would give the Jeep Wrangler a run for its money. Jeep is currently working on a 392 cu-in V8-powered Wrangler what could have 450 horsepower in production. The Wrangler 4Xe plug-in hybrid was recently announced with 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. While Jeep has not yet officially announced plans to produce a Wrangler Mojave (desert-rated Jeep) – we anticipate that it may be coming in the near future.
This prototype appears to roll on 35-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires. The suspension components are largely obscured, but the stance of the prototype appears even wider than that of the 2021 Bronco with a Sasquatch off-road package. If the Bronco Raptor is wider – it’s to allow for a suspension system with more travel. Is it hiding a FOX Live-valve active shocks like on the current F-150 Raptor? We will have to wait and see.
Will it have a V8 engine option? The exhaust system on the prototype appears to the be unique, but there is no report from the spy photographer as to what it sounded like.
